The exchange space located in the multipurpose building of the Gijon Campus.

The service aims to give a new life to used books and contribute to promote reading among the university community | The project has been promoted by the students living in MediaLab and the Vice-rectorate for Sustainability, Mobility and Environment of the Asturian university.

The resident students of the MediaLab of the University of Oviedo have created, in collaboration with the Vice-rectorate for Sustainability, Mobility and Environment, a book exchange space in the multipurpose building of the Gijón Campus. The initiative aims to give a new life to used books and thus encourage reading within the university community.

MediaLab students have conditioned the space by painting the wall and adding a vinyl with the legend: “Take a book, read, share and leave on the shelves the ones you have enjoyed. Add a note with a comment for future readers. Take care of reading, verses and ideas”. In addition, the poem by Oviedo writer Ángel González Quédate quieto decorates the space. The students have also taken advantage of old boards that they have restored to create the shelves where the books will be placed. People who come to this exchange point will be able to post their comments on the readings on a board placed for this purpose.

In this way, the University of Oviedo creates a space where books can have a new opportunity to be read in order to prevent them from being forgotten on the shelves or ending up in the trash. This is the first book exchange point of the academic institution and will serve as a test for replication in other parts of the University of Oviedo.
