On 14 March, Rector Joaquín Goyache inaugurated the Orienta 2022 fair, which is being held in San Lorenzo de El Escorial until Friday 18 March.
It’s organised by the town council, the aim of the event is to provide information on the educational and professional options available to the 600 or so students in the town’s baccalaureate and final year of ESO. Goyache took part in the inaugural session together with the mayoress of the town, Carlota López Esteban, and the rector of the RCU Escorial-María Cristina, Enrique Somavilla.
The Complutense University has sent staff from the Dissemination and Orientation Unit to the fair, who will be attending students who are interested in finding out about its wide range of studies and cultural and sporting activities on the 14th and 15th.
Goyache closed her speech by calling on students who have a vocation for science not to hesitate to put it into practice. As she pointed out, there is a clear lack of women in the so-called STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) careers, which is largely due to the “fear” they feel of entering a traditionally male-dominated field. “Don’t doubt it. You are capable of anything. You have the world at your feet”, concluded the rector.
