University of Valladolid

The University of Valladolid is a public university in Spain, located in the city of Valladolid. It was founded in 1241, which makes it the third oldest university in Spain, behind the Universities of Palencia and Salamanca.

Study Options

160 undergraduate degree courses are offered in the fields of Humanities, Education, Social, Health and Natural Physical Sciences and Engineering. Moreover, the UVA offers 54 master and 80 PhD. programs. These study programs are uniquely designed in intensive co-operation with enterprises and other relevant stakeholders.

The University of Valladolid has a history of more than 700 years, with an unparalleled historical library, a monumental facade that originated in the 18th century, and a palace, the Santa Cruz Palace. The palace is now used as the office of the vice-principal and is the first sample of Spanish Renaissance art. These traditional buildings are in sharp contrast with the modern buildings on the campus, and the University of Valladolid has also won international awards in the field of sustainability of the built environment. Additionally, its wide academic range in all knowledge fields is supported by awarded research programs by its excellence.

The University of Valladolid has nowdays 26000 students studying for bachelor, master or PhD degrees, 2300 academic staff carrying out teaching and investigation, and nearly one thousand administrative and services staff. It is formed by four campuses, respectively located in Valladolid, Palencia, Soria, and Segovia.  Due to its history and tradition, its physical presence, the number of students and staff, the variety of studies offered and the high level of research, the University of Valladolid is an important factor in the development of the Autonomous Community of Castile and León.

The Knowledge Transfer Office of the University closely keeps in touch with more than 350 companies, to which the University of Valladolid offers solutions adapted to their needs. Moreover, the University of Valladolid directs through its Scientific Park the promotion efforts of the undertaking and creation of technology-based companies and corporate spin-off.

Spanish Courses at the University of Valladolid

The Spanish courses offered at the University of Valladolid are taught in the Language Center, a modern building equipped with the latest language instruction technologies. The Language Center’s on-campus location and the fact that it also provides foreign language courses directed at native students makes it easy for foreign students to integrate into university life.

Courses are organized in small groups to provide students with an optimal level of personalized attention and quality instruction from fully qualified and highly experienced teachers.According to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, the Language Center can provide language courses at multiple levels from A2 to C2.

Students at the language center are also given a university ID card, which provides access to university services such as the sports facilities and the gym. All in all, the campus and the Language Center make up a functional, safe environment ideal for the learning and practice of Spanish.

The Library of the University of Valladolid is an essential and active part of the university system to which it gives support by offering a wide variety of spaces, services, and bibliographic resources and information which, developed in active, dynamic environment and with a great presence of information and communication technologies. At the end of the year 2017, the library of the University was awarded with the 500+ EFQM excellence seal with the national and international recognition.

For those sports lovers, the university offers the following training: basketball, handball, volleyball, rugby, football, five-a-side-football, athletics, cross-country, long-distance running, skiing, Basque pelota, frontenis, chess, badminton, tennis, table-tennis, judo, squash, karate, as well as different types of physical education courses.
