The University City joins the environmental corridor Arco Verde
May 25, 2023

The rectors of the 3 universities that are part of the Urban Consortium of the University City of Madrid (UCM, UPM, UNED) and the Regional Minister of Environment, Housing and Agriculture of the Community of Madrid signed a collaboration protocol to develop actions to protect flora and fauna of the campus within the environmental corridor Arco Verde.

This project seeks to connect the three regional parks of Madrid (Cuenca Alta del Manzanares, Curso Medio del Río Guadarrama and Sureste) and 25 municipalities, forests and woodlands, in order to create new areas of biodiversity and adapt roads and paths to create a large green corridor around Madrid, on the outside of the cycling ring.

Arco Verde, promoted by the Community of Madrid, is part of Spain’s Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan. The European Union has financed it through the Next Generation EU funds. Its three main lines of action are:

  1. Biodiversity
  2. Sustainable mobility
  3. Social participation
